Another Chapter Begins

Well, its official! Lowell got the job today, and we couldn't be more excited! Finally, things are no longer up in the air and a huge weight has been lifted so now we can focus on the apartment search. Again. I can't believe that we've moved four times in the past four years, but you do what you have to do right? It's just the way life is.

I'm so unbelievably thrilled that everything has worked out for us. Shocked, really.

We went from not knowing whether or not he was even going to have a job, they told him to prepare for the worst and that it didn't look good because Otis was on a hiring freeze and had already laid off 11 people. Still didn't know...so we started looking for jobs anywhere and everywhere around the country, hoping that something was going to happen, but with the economy the way it is, almost every engineering job required at least 5-10 years of experience. It wasn't lookin' good!

Then we got a call from CloudBlue! He went on the interview, got a callback to do a second interview, and that was last Tuesday. They told him that they wanted to decide by Thursday and they'd let him know then. Then we found out he was officially laid off. They told him his last day was on July 15. We pretty much knew that it was coming, so it was kind of good that we were expecting it. Lowell told me that they laid off 7 other people, some who had been there 15+ years, and got a two week notice. It's just wrong on so many levels to expect people to get things lined up or even have some sort of plan in two weeks. What if you have a house? I can't even imagine. I hope I don't have to live through that someday.

Anyway...Thursday came...no call, no email...nada. Nothing Friday. Needless to say, it was a horrible weekend. Lowell was freaking out, and had already pretty much given up that he'd gotten the job, OR he was so hopeful that it was all he talked about. Last night the last thing he said, "Tomorrow is judgement day...I hope."

He pretty much had to get this job since we didn't really have anything else lined up, and we have to be out of the apartment by July 31st. If we had nothing...back to my parents house to live and get on unemployment because there was no way I'd be able to pay both our bills and rent, or stay at Lowell's moms & Stan's new lake house. We were really both hoping we didn't have to do that. But we were 100% prepared to.

Then today came and Lowell unexpectedly came home at 10:30am and said that he'd been trying to call me because he'd gotten an email from the guy (he can't read his yahoo email at work, they block it, but he can read the titles and who sends it...gay) at CloudBlue. We both assumed that it was a rejection email, we thought they'd call, but it said..."You've been selected..."

WHEW. *JUMPING AROUND THE ROOM HUGGING AND SCREAMING!!*

I'm so proud of him. I think he really wanted this job, because he was doing research on the accounts from the moment he came home from the first interview, and made all these charts comparing the monthly sales from the account he'd be taking over in Indy and the Chicago location.

It's definitely a little surreal that he's leaving engineering and going into sales. He's a little shocked too, feels like his education is being wasted, but it's still dealing with electronics which he loves. Who knew that all that work we did for three years doing eBay in the beginning of our relationship, is now kind of paying off. It got him a job when we really needed it!

Thank god for eBay.

One good thing: Insurance. He'll have full benefits which he hasn't had the past two years. It will be nice to have in case something happens. We've been tempting fate for too long, and it's bound to catch up to us sooner or later! It always does.

Second good thing: No down time in between jobs! No waiting! He starts Monday, and is telling Otis that this Friday is his last day, so HA. He's training in Joliet all next week, gets put up in a hotel, free food...me, stuck at home PACKING.

His favorite perk: an iPhone or Blackberry. The bastard will get a kickass phone to keep up with emails outside of work. Granted it sucks that the job isn't 9 to 5 and he'll probably be working all the time, but answering emails isn't that bad as long as he isn't doing it 24/7 and not paying attention to me! *wink*

The words that just came out of his mouth..."No more scanning HUNDREDS of jobs on monster.com anymore!" He's excited, and boy am I too! haha.

Now I get to find us a new place to live, and I may have already done that today! I found a really nice townhouse right inside the loop near his job, and close to Gina in Brownsburg (who's also extremely excited about us moving closer to her)! We have plans to go hunting a bit this Saturday, and if we're lucky just sign and get it over with if we find something. He's even looking at some places now he likes. I'm sure I'll post some pictures of the new place when we move in!

*******
We just got back from Indy to meet Lowell's mom, Stan, and his Grandma who flew in today for dinner at P.F. Chang. Soooooo good. Best chinese I've ever had. Very nice, highly recommended. While we were there I noticed...Cheesecake Factory. You have no idea how excited I am to live near one of those again! It's been awhile! I love the Cheesecake Factory!

He got his new camera from his mom and Stan (the replacement for the one that got buried in the dirt before the Metallica concert) and it's soooooo nice. So much better than the last one! Casio 7.1mega-pixels, and 8x zoom! Sleek black. Very smooth. Love it and can't wait to try it out this weekend when we go apartment hunting! It's charging now, but I took a few quick photos of Bubbs, but then it died on me...so maybe I'll take and post some pictures with it tomorrow. AND, it's YouTube ready...film, plug it in and it will upload all your videos to YouTube! Now I don't need a FlipHD!

Indy, you better watch out cause we're movin' in!

Until tomorrow,
